Our History
The Bookbindery started in 1979 and has been owned and operated in Auckland by the same local family ever since. For the first ten years the business was run from the family home, with the workshop in the garage and customers climbing the front steps with books under their arms. In 1989 the growing business moved to its present home — a two-storied shop on the corner of Parau Street and Fearon Avenue in Mount Roskill — where the workshop and showroom remain today.
What We Produce
'The Bookbindery' specializes in producing fine hard-covered books and in repairing and restoring damaged books. Alongside these we offer foil stamping and blind embossing, soft-covered volumes, and special folders ranging from ring binders to brass-post binders, as well as protective and display boxes.
Our work covers an enormous range — from thesis binding to menu covers, from a one-off product display box to library binding for institutions. If it involves putting pages, covers, boards or boxes together beautifully and durably, it is very likely something we do.
What We Sell Online
Through our online shop we sell the SMART Book Repair Kit — our own kit for carrying out simple book repairs at home — together with high-quality Italian-made notebooks and journals, which can be personalised with gold foiling, and printed marble papers in traditional patterns.
Who Can Use Our Services
Anyone. We work for individuals, companies and institutions throughout New Zealand — and, in fact, for anyone worldwide who is willing to use the post or a courier. Much of our thesis binding and restoration work arrives by mail from outside Auckland, and the finished work is returned the same way, carefully packed.
Our Location and Opening Hours
You will find us at the corner of Parau Street and Fearon Avenue (52B Parau Street), Mount Roskill, Auckland 1041. Parau Street is often described as being in the Three Kings area, and we are close to the Dominion Road exit from State Highway 20.
